I posted this last night on our Facebook page and should have included it in here at the time.
Important announcement
I'm sad to advise that Nicola Simmonds has stepped down from the Committee. Nicola's been a godsend in recent months and I'm very happy that she's staying with us as a group member and planning to stay involved.
We're also losing Lauren Janina from the committee shortly. Lauren is one of the founding members of the group and it's fair to say she's the primary reason we kept on our feet in the early months and have grown to where we are. Both are leaving big shoes to fill.
Over the past couple of months it's become more and more of a struggle to cope with the volume of enquiries, requests, event planning and general noise that comes with running this group. Without Nicola and the huge efforts of Jessica Cross we wouldn't have coped at all recently and we need to do something about that.
After some reflection we've decided on a fairly radical way forward - to vacate ALL the existing committee roles (including mine) and start over again. We're inviting ALL full group members to express an interest in joining a new committee. It doesn't matter whether you're new or old to the group or whether you know one end of a badger from another. We're not at this stage looking to fill specific roles such as Chair, Secretary, Treasurer etc. and are just looking for anyone who'd like to help in any way to make themselves known. We'll allocate roles/job shares and tasks thereafter as a team.
If you'd like to throw your hat in the ring, have an appetite for admin, helping manage enquiries, dealing with membership requests, liaising with the media, helping organise events, campaign, marketing and educational work, social media work, organising walks, sett surveying, wildlife rescues, data management or running our social calendar, we'd love to hear from you. My hat will be in the ring in case anyone reads this as my farewell speech (you don't get off that lightly!) and I know Jessica is keen to carry on her good work on the committee as well.
We're looking to build a team of 9-11 committee members with a minimum of 7 and to have the new group in place by early July. We've currently got a lot on our plate and a lot more work to do if we're to achieve our goals for 2023. One of those goals is a summer social. Another is to build an artificial badger sett this year.

Thank you!
